The NOVA Moto Jacket: A Concept for Next-Gen in Safety Wear

During Berlin Fashion Week in February 2026, we unvieled the NOVA moto jacket, made of MIRUM by NFW and STITCHLOCK by CLIMATEX Circular Textile Technologies.

Crafted for the conscious explorer, this motorcycle jacket proves you don’t need to compromise on protection when choosing next-gen. The tough but flexible outer shell is made with natural rubber and plant fibers, called MIRUM. Protect yourself by inserting your own armor in the back, shoulder, and elbow armor pockets for added safety. The design also includes pockets, back air vents, and an expandable waistband for comfortable riding. STITCHLOCK thread holds it all together and ensures that when your journey ends, nothing becomes waste. After a few minutes under pressure, the thread is dissolved and allows for easy disassembly so all the components can be recycled or composted.

The Impact
This jacket proves we don't need to rely on animal hides or fossil-fuels in order to have protective, functional wear. Leather production has 15x more carbon emissions than the production of MIRUM, and relies on harsh chemicals to tan and preserve it. MIRUM is completely bio-based, vegan, water resistant, UV protected, and non-toxic. Made of natural rubber, it is naturally durable and resilient against abrasion. With the global leather motorcycle jacket market estimated around $1.4 Billion with a CAGR of 8.7%, it's important to find alternatives for such a harmful industry.

By using STITCHLOCK, the end of life disassembly can be completed with less effort, less time, and without any cutting waste. This is especially useful in products with various components that would go to different waste streams, such as zippers or buttons compared to cotton. We design for the end of life of the garment to prevent it from becoming landfill once it is no longer being worn.

The NOVA jacket was created as a design concept as part of the Design Academy NOVA, co-hosted by Zalando and VORN — The Berlin Fashion Hub. Modeled by WINTER @themythofwinter via Wirsinduns LGBTQIA+ modelling agency.
